Candle Stick Makeover

On a recent trip to the second hand store I found these candle sticks for $3 for the set. I loved the height, the curling design, and the price, I hated the color, it was just too dark.

Originally, I planned on doing a crackle paint with some cream paint, but then I realized that all of my walls are white (a bummer of living in a rental) and that it would not pop out like I hoped. When I went to Michael's and was looking through their acrylic paint I came across Folk Art Silver sterling paint, I thought that could be interesting.

I first painted the smaller candle stick, I figured if I hated it at least it was the smaller of the 3 and then there would be less paint to remove if I hated it. Luckily, I loved it and I quickly painted the other 2. I learned on the second candlestick that the less amount of paint I used the more metallic and weathered it looked. I really like how these turned out and they know accent the plain hallway wall that I couldn't seem to find anything to fit in.

  1. The candlesticks look great. I am actually here looking specifically at the paint itself - I'm glad you said that the fewer the layers, the more weathered it looked - that's what I was after ^^ Though I may end up painting my own candlestick holders, now, too! Silver is always good <3
