I know I have only been doing the blog for only a week but today I am going to do a lazy blog, YIKES! Give me a break it is Monday and the first day back at school, but I am in the process of a few projects and hope to have one of them up by tomorrow.
So for my lazy post, when I was down at my brothers house for New Years, my nephew wanted to play a Wii game and had to go to his parents bedroom to get it, I was intrigued to say the least. What my sister-in-law had set up was she had taken all of the DVD's and Wii games and put them in cases and every member of the family had check out cards.
When my nephew went to get a Wii game he didn't have his check out card because it was in the slot of another DVD that he had checked out before hand, he had to return it before he could check out anything else.
When my kids were younger it was always such a hassle keeping DVD's in there cases and keeping them scratch free, what a GREAT idea! I wish I would have thought about this when my girls were younger.
I passed the idea to my best friend and she immediately went to work in creating her own check out system and it is working out great. Luckily, she has recently started a blog and one of her first posts is a how to, so check out the link to Crafty Homeschool for a great tutorial and pictures.

Adoption Auction Donation
Upon reading one of my favorite blogs, a lemon squeezy home, the other day there was a post mentioning a family who planned to adopt a set of siblings from Ethiopia. Here is a copy of the email that posted on the site:
“My name is Jennifer Chase and my husband, Trevor, and I are in the process of adopting a sibling set of two from Ethiopia. We just completed all the paperwork and received word that we are a "waiting family" today! So, basically, we are officially waiting for our referral. This waiting could be two days, or it could be two years! Anyway, as you may know, international adoption is a pretty expensive process (the whole process will end up being around $30,000). To offset some of these costs, we are working on some fundraisers. We have done a few that have been total flops and a couple that have been more successful, but the most successful fundraiser we have done so far is an adoption auction that someone did for several adoptive families on her blog. This got me thinking that maybe I should do my own adoption auction. This is where you come in! :)
So, here is what I'm asking of you...Please be a part of my on-line adoption auction to help us raise money to bring our babies home! It is as simple as this:
1. Identify one or more of your projects that you would be willing to donate.
2. E-mail me to let me know what you would like to send.
3. I will E-mail you my mailing address.
4. Send either the items or a picture of the items (a picture would be best if your item is something custom like an article of clothing).
5. Help me by promoting my auction on your blog.
…..Honestly, the items can just be things that you have made that you didn't find a use for or you can create something new, whichever you'd like!
I will run the auction January 29th to February 5th, so I would like to have the items/pictures by January 15th. Thank you so much for considering giving to help us raise the necessary funds for our adoption.

I was immediately inspired and went to their website Team Chase: 4 and Counting and knew that I had to donate something. I will be donating a bag of my "Chips ACount" counting cookies.

If you would like a set of your own make sure to check out their auction when it opens on January 29th. I will post another link as the date gets closer to help remind all those who are interested in purchasing any items from the auction.

Christmas Tree Bag
After 2 days of dealing with severe dehydration I feel much better and can function again, thank goodness. I am such a slacker and finally have all of my Christmas down, my biggest obstacle has been finding something to put my newest Christmas tree in. I hate spending so much for the Christmas tree totes and by the time I went to purchase one I couldn't find any.
Our school district does a festival of trees and the 2nd graders of my kids' school always decorate and donate a tree for it. Well, my youngest, "Kitty Kat", is in 2nd grade so it was her year to do the tree. She was quite proud of it and because we purchased "Princess's" tree she was bound and determined that we were going to buy her tree as well. Being a rather tough year financial I convinced her to not set her hopes up high and she didn't think that I would be able to purchase the tree. I did go on a field trip with her class though and got a picture of the tree.

They based the tree on the story "Queen of Christmas" by Mary Engelbreit. Myself and my girls went back as a family activity and looked at all the neat trees. I saw that the tree still didn't have any bids on it and I couldn't resist and placed a bid on it, without my girls having any idea. I got a phone call a few days later that I had won the tree so when the girls went to school I got the tree and set it up, the girls knew there was going to be a surprise, as I put a note in their advent calendar, but had no idea what to expect. It was so funny because when "Kitty Kat" walked in the house she didn't see anything and was really disappointed she didn't open the front door all the way. When she walked into the kitchen, it was so nice to see the look on her face, she was so excited that we got her tree. I'm excited to keep the tree until the girls move out on their own and then they will have their own trees that they made when they were in 2nd grade. Because I bought the tree this way it didn't have anything to store it in so I had to make my own holder.
Today I took a tarp and made it into a bag to hold the tree.

I haven't purchased a zipper yet, I thought I might use some velcro but I couldn't find it. It will work for storage this year but I may have to tweak it a little latter. I may sew the seam up higher to keep the tree completely in the bag which will save me from having to purchase a zipper.
I had never sewn a tarp before and I must admit I wasn't sure it would work but it stitched together just fine, it was extremely slippery though and I wished that I would have waited until my kids were home so they could have helped me guide the material in. I am still pretty happy with it though, and it was much cheaper than buying a tree bag or a tree tote.
